— ECKHART — John Eugene Seibert, 91, formerly of Eckhart, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013 at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.

Born March 21, 1922 in Eckhart, he was the son of the late John Jacob Seibert and Elizabeth (Grofter) Seibert. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (Sweene) Seibert; brothers, Leo Seibert, Joe Seibert, and William Seibert; sister Margaret Settle.

John served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 serving in New Guinea and the Philippines.

He worked for a time at the C & P Railroad in Mount Savage. After that, he went to trade school and worked as a painter for local 947.  John's favorite hobby was woodworking. He made furniture and clocks. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

He is survived by two sons, Clarence R. Sweene and wife Donna G. Chambersburg and Gerald F. Sweene, LaVale; grandchildren, Diana, Tricia, Tina, Kelly, Brian, and Tara; great-grandchildren, Michael Anthony, Jessica Lynn, Ashley, Taylor, Britney, Austin, Zachary, Alexis, Nicholas, Antonio, Madison, and Mia; and a daughter-in-law, Michelle Sweene. Also, surviving, a brother, Robert Seibert, Frostburg; and a sister, Mary Seibert, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Father Ed Hendricks officiating.

Pallbearers will be Larry Abe, Bill Donahue, Chuck Pierpont, Ryan Abe, Mark Abe,  and Brian Sweene.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, Diana, Tricia, Tina, Kelly, Brian, and Tara.

American Legion Farrady Post 24 will accord military honors at the graveside.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
