— WESTERNPORT — Rose Mary Bateson, 87, of Westernport, died on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at her home.  

Born on Jan. 28, 1926, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William and Minnie (Gilbert) Morgan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil D. Bateson and a sister, Angela Rotruck.   

She was a 1943 graduate of St. Peter’s High School and a life-long member of St. Peter’s Church. She was a charter member of the St. Peter’s School PTA, for which she held several offices. She was also an active member of Court Sancta Maria, C.D.A. and enjoyed the activities of the Westernport Senior Citizens. She was employed by the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company as an operator and service representative. After her retirement in 1981, she worked part-time as a bookkeeper for St. Peter’s Parish and also as a clerk for the town of Westernport. Rose Mary especially enjoyed traveling, dining with friends and family, walking, watching sunsets, watching English comedies, a nice glass of wine, a slice of cheese and enjoying life!

She is survived by four children, Cecil Lane Bateson and wife Sandy, of Keyser, Diane Kenner and husband Erwin, of Swanton, William Bateson and wife Karla, of Westernport and John Bateson, of Biloxi, Miss.; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  

Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, on Sunday, Feb. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m.  

A funeral Mass with be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Westernport, with Father Ed Hendricks as celebrant.  

Private interment will be in Philos Cemetery.
