JAMES “RUSHIE” M. WOLFINGTON [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — James “Rushie” Marvin Wolfington, 76, of Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.

Born May 27, 1936, in Cumberland, Jim was the son of the late William Paul Wolfington Sr. and Mary Edith (Burns) Wolfington. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Wolfington Jr. and a sister, Eleanor Watkins.

A graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1955, Jim served in the United States Army before he began a successful sales career in advertising in Washington, D.C. Jim was married to his wife, Elsa Grace Fernandez, for 28 years, and raised four children in Gaithersburg. In 1992, Jim semi-retired and moved back to his beloved hometown of Cumberland, where he spent most of his time buying and selling antiques, playing Hot Stove Bingo, and socializing with family and friends. Jim was known for his friendly smile, concern for others, witty humor, and love for dogs.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Ingrid Johnson and husband Jeff, of Charlottesville, Va., Barbara Ottaviani and husband Matt, of LaVale and Stefanie Cooper and husband Chris, of Bethesda and a son, John Wolfington and wife Monica, of New York City, N.Y. He is also survived by his sisters, Nina Maphis, of Rock Hill, N.C. and Carolyn Wolfington, of Cumberland; as well as eight grandchildren, Lauren, Katie, Madisen, Natalie, Jake, Roman, Luca and Massimo and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, from 10 a.m. until noon.   

A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at noon with Minister Tom Delawder officiating.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

In the last nine years of his life, Jim was cared for by the extraordinary staff at Frostburg Village Nursing Home. Jim’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation for the benevolent care that Jim received from all of the dedicated and gracious nurses and staff at Frostburg Village.
