DOUGLAS W. “BUDDY” LOVE JR. [New Creek, W.Va.]

NEW CREEK, W.Va. —  Douglas W. “Buddy” Love Jr., 90, went to be with his lord and savior on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born Oct. 1, 1922 in Oakmont W.Va., he was the son of the late Douglas Washington Love Sr. and Geneieve Paugh Love. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda V. Love; a daughter, Judy L. Ammons and her husband Roger; one sister, Vivian Sayers; two brothers, Robert L. Love and Charles E. Love.

Surviving are his sister, Emma Jean Burner; two sons, Douglas W. Love and wife Linda of Painesville Ohio, George E. Love Sr. and wife Regina of Keyser, W.Va.; and two daughters, Gloria J. Tasker and husband Terry of Middletown, Barbara A. Willis and husband Ronald of Keyser. Surviving also are his 12 grandchildren, Howard Ammons and wife Deanna, Edward Ammons, Tim Ammons and wife Carrie, Mylinda Balint and husband John, Carolyn Remington and husband Harry, Chad Tasker and wife Windy, Jodi Keyfauver and husband Steve, Denise Junkins and husband Charlie, Renee High and husband Rick, J.R. Love and wife Cassi, Bryan Love and wife Corey, and Jaime Love Ali and husband Steven; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Buddy was a veteran of the 1st Marine Division of World War II. He was a member of 1st Marine Division Association. He was a corporal in the 1st Marine Division of the United States Marines Corps. and served in Guadal Canal, Peleliu, Okinawa Japan and Tientsin China. Following the war, Buddy and his father started their own coal business called Sugar Coal Company.  He later went to Island Creek Coal Company and retired with 32 years of service.    

Doug enjoyed the outdoors with hunting, fishing and camping and had a love for building and working with his hands.

He attended the Keyser Assembly of God Church. He was a member of the VFW Post 3518, Nancy Hanks and United Mine Workers of America.    

Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home on Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m.  

Funeral services will be conducted at Keyser Assembly of God Church, 220 South, Keyser, at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services.

Interment will follow in IOOF Cemetery, Elk Garden W.Va., where military honors will be accorded.
