DANIEL M. DEVLIN [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Daniel Myles Devlin, 92, of Cumberland, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born Dec. 8, 1920, in Midland, Mr. Devlin was the son of the late John Devlin and Bridget (Stakem) Devlin. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, John “Jack” and Harry Devlin; and his sisters, Mary McGraw, Anna Eberly, and Agnes Urbas.

Dan graduated from Central High School, Lonaconing. He was a World War II Army Veteran enlisting the day after his 18th birthday with his brother Jack. They were stationed on the Matagorda Island in Texas. After marrying the love of his life, he lived in Baltimore several years working as a meat cutter at Kauffman's Market. He retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Company in 1976 where he had worked in the Tread Room. He was a member of the El Fidel Club and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was also a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Cresaptown.

Surviving is his wife of 68 years, Jean (Angle) Devlin. Also surviving Dan are his daughter, Karen Devlin Dixon and husband, Terry, Frostburg; his grandchildren, Amber Stevenson, Cumberland, Kevin Stevenson and wife, Dawn and Ben Dixon and Brandon Dixon, all of Frostburg; his great-grandchildren, Hailey Orndorff, McKenna Bonner and Jake Bonner, Cumberland, Dylan and Dakotah Stevenson, Frostburg; his sister, Catherine (Kay) Rivera, West Palm Beach, Fla.; his loving little yorkie, Tika.

At Dan's request, there will be no services and he will be cremated.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.

The family would like to thank the WMHS Hospice Service, especially Jane Adams, RN, and Maricay Welsh, CNA, who took great care of Dan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dan’s name to the Allegany County Animal Shelter, Post Office Box 566, Cumberland, MD 21501.
