REV. JOHN W. GORDON [Frostburg]

FROSTBURG — Rev. John W. Gordon, 77, went to be with His Lord and Savior on April 18, 2014, Good Friday, at 3 p.m.

Born in Frostburg on Jan. 11, 1937, he was the son of the late William T. Gordon and Ruth (Stark) Gordon. Also preceding him in death were his wife, Deanna (Durst) Gordon; a brother, Ronald L. Gordon (Patty); a son-in-law, Larry A. Walters; and a daughter-in-law, Jenni Gordon.

John proudly served his country as a member of the Army Reserve after graduating from Beall High School. He loved woodworking and found great satisfaction in being creative and working with his hands. He was a supervisor at the Celanese Fibers Company before answering the call of God on his life in 1969. John was the founder and pastor of Liberty Temple Church (later Liberty Christian Fellowship) which began in the old theater building in Mount Savage and later moved to the present property in Cresaptown.

Having a passion for outreach and evangelism, John held tent meetings throughout the tri-state area, in Delaware, and also New York. He was the host of the LRT 300 Club, a television ministry on the local cable station. For many years, he also ministered on Liberty Revival Time by radio on WKLP in Keyser and also a station in Central City, Pa.

John is survived by his children, Timothy J. Gordon, Stamford, Texas, Tammy J. Walters, LaVale, Rebecca A. Barnes (Benny), Frostburg, and Ronald J. Gordon (Melanie), Cumberland. Also, his children, Justin Gordon and fiancée (April), Rawlings, Jacqueline K. Thomas (Ronald), Bruceton Mills, W.Va., and Joshua and Jonathan Gordon, Frostburg. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

John is survived by his brothers, Robert J. Gordon (Pat), Conway, S.C., William (Tom) Gordon (Janet), Frostburg, Gary L. Gordon (Linda), Meyersdale, Pa, and Roger D. Gordon (Tammy), Cresaptown. He has many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday, April 21, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted in Liberty Christian Fellowship, McMullen Highway, Cresaptown on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 1 p.m., with a visitation one hour prior to service. Services will be officiated by Pastor Gary L. Gordon.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
