CUMBERLAND — Velda Pearl Smith, 98, of Cumberland, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Frostburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Aug. 24, 1914, in Centerville, Pa., Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late William Percy Hite and Lola Iva (Boor) Hite. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Allen R. Smith, in 1988; three brothers, Harold Hite, Kenneth D. Hite and Veryl H. Hite; two sisters, Thelma Gillum and Leah Hite and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Smith was a former member of the Park Place United Methodist Church, LaVale, but attended the Cresaptown United Methodist Church and supported the Bethel United Methodist Church. She retired from the WMHS Sacred Heart Campus Hospital's Central Service Department with 24 years of service. Previously, she was employed at the Warp Knitting Department of the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America for seven years.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her sister-in-law, Jean Hite; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Sunday, March 10, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday, March 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lee Brotemarkle officiating.
Interment will be held at Bethel Cemetery, Bedford Valley, Pa.
