Rita Mae Robinson [Friendsville]

FRIENDSVILLE — Rita Mae Robinson, 58, of Friendsville, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011, at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family, after losing her year long battle with metastatic breast cancer.

Born June 14, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow V. and Alfreda M. Friend. Rita was a life long member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church (ELCA), Cove and an active part of the Garrett County School System for many years, where she touched the lives of thousands of students, staff, faculty, and parents.

During her lifetime, Rita travelled extensively with her best friend and husband, William, to 48 states, 12 countries, and 3 continents. She accumulated over one million airline miles during her adventures, and always looked forward to the yearly fly fishing trip to the Sawtooth Mountain Range in Idaho. Rita was an avid skier, hiker, and fly fisher, but most of all, she is preciously remembered by her family as a gracious, loving, and dedicated wife, mother, aunt, niece, and “Nana.”

Rita is survived by her best friend and husband of 34 years, William F. Robinson, of Friendsville; her two admiring sons, Dr. Joshua Robinson and wife Dr. Amy Robinson, and two lovable grandchildren, Abigail and James, of Spring Mills, Pa., and Dr. Jeremy Robinson and wife Dr. Rachel Robinson, of Washington, D.C. Additionally, she is survived by her loving sister, Sadie Fint and husband George, of Aurora, W.Va.; and two brothers, Ronald W. Friend and wife Eleanor, of Romney, W.Va., and Donald W. Friend and wife Carolyn, of Friendsville; seven nieces and nephews, and fourteen great-nieces and nep-hews.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Sunday, May 22, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church (ELCA), Cove with the Rev. Roland E. Nairn III officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scott Bittinger, Jason Fint, George Fint, Ronald Friend, Roy Deniker, and Paul Deniker.
