SHORT GAP, W.Va. — David Ernest Smith, 60, of Short Gap, formerly of Anderson, S.C., passed away on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at his home under hospice care with his family by his side.
Born March 10, 1952 in Anderson, he was the son of Ruby Nell Smith of Anderson and the late Ralph E. Smith.
Mr. Smith was retired from Biederlack of America. He was also a member of Graceland Baptist Church of Short Gap.
He loved fishing, golfing, woodworking and deeply loved his family life. He achieved his Eagle Scout, the highest rank with the BSA.
David is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sylvia Smith; children, Kevin Campbell and fiancée Melissa Thompson of Cresaptown, Jamie and Diana Campbell of Columbus, Ohio and daughter, Tracy and Bill Wiegand of Frostburg; seven grandchildren, Ashlan, Derek, Mckenna, Caleb, Chase, Hayley and Colton.
He is also survived by a brother, Paul Edward Smith and wife Nancy of Gastonia, N.C. He had two nephews. Paul Edward Smith and his wife Heather of Kings Mountain, N.C. and David Lee Smith and wife Heather of Acworth, Ga.; one uncle, numerous aunts; and one great-niece and three great-nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, (www.scarpellifh.com), Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Oscar Ohler and Chaplain Lew Twigg officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Western Maryland Dialysis Unit or Potomac Valley Hospice of Keyser, W.Va.
