— KEYSER, W.Va. — Richard Allen Davis, 73, of “C” Street, Keyser, died Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.

Born on May 25, 1940 at Fairmont, W.Va., he was a son of the late Robert Gross Davis and Mary Elizabeth (Mittendorf) Davis.

Mr. Davis was a 1958 graduate of East Fairmont High School and received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education in 1962 and his Master's Degree in Music Theory and Composition from West Virginia University. He began his career in music education in 1963 at Potomac State College as Professor of Music until his retirement with 39 years of service. He was director of the Potomac State Singers, later becoming the Potomac State College Community Chorus and directed many local choruses for ecumenical church services in the area.

Mr. Davis was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and served as the chancel choir director for over 20 years. He was also a member of the WVU Alumni Association. Literature was also a very important part of his life, and his later years, reveled in writing letters and composing various short works.

Surviving are his two sons, Robert Gross Davis II and wife Kyung-Ae Kim of Morgantown, W.Va. and Morgan Jennings Davis and wife Shelly of Sedona, Ariz.; a brother, George F. Davis and wife Carolyn of Philippi, W.Va.; and a sister, Sarah E. "Sally" Davis of Fairmont. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, July 5, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Grace United Methodist Church, S. Mineral Street, Keyser, on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. James A. McCune officiating. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Morgantown.
