FRANK L. TURLEY [Fort Ashby, W.Va.]

FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Frank Louis Turley, 92, of Fort Ashby, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at The Chateau.

Born July 28, 1920 in Petersburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Stanley Harness Turley and Bertha May (Orndoff) Turley.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Lee (Head) Turley; four brothers, Elwood, Charles, Stanley, and Guy Turley; a sister, Mary Alt and two infant sisters.

Frank was a graduate of Petersburg High School. He had attended Salem College.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 719th Railway Battalion.

Mr. Turley retired with 39 years of service as a conductor with the Chessie System.

Mr. Turley was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee; Fort Ashby Post 6667, V.F.W.; and, United Transportation Union, Local 600. He was a former member of the Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his three sons, Alan Turley and wife Tip, Chillicothe, Ohio, Kevin Turley and wife Darinda, Ridgeley, W.Va. and Scott Turley and wife Melissa, Fort Ashby; five grandchildren, Mark Turley and wife Heather, Pittsburgh, Pa., Tonya Benson and husband Ben, Roanoke, Va., Nathan Turley, Ridgeley, Shay Turley and Morgan Turley, both of Fort Ashby; three great-grandchildren, Rebecca Benson, Andy Benson, and Elena Turley; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be conducted in Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Hickman officiating.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
