HEADSVILLE, W.Va. — Edith Frances Cox, 88, of Headsville, W.Va., died Friday, July 5, 2013 at the residence of her daughter-in-law.
Born on March 24, 1925, at Reese's Mill, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late James Franklin and Ethel M. (Wagoner) Pownell. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Earl W. Cox on Aug. 24, 1998; a son, Edward F. Cox; a daughter-in-law, Judy Cox and a brother, Pete Pownell.
Mrs. Cox was a homemaker and was a life member of the Headsville United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to DAV Chapter 9, Keyser, W,Va. and loved gardening and hunting.
Surviving are one son, Robert W. Cox of Keyser; her daughter-in-law, Thelma Cox of Keyser, with whom she resided for eight and a half years; two brothers, Donald Pownell and wife Katie and Charles Pownell and wife LaVada, all of Keyser; one sister, Bertha Hedrick of Harrisonburg, Va.; five grandchildren, Robert W. Cox, Jr., Earl W. Cox and Richard, Rudy and Ryan Hoffert and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, July 12, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Headsville United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ed Weaver officiating. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Headsville Cemetery.
