— CUMBERLAND — Martha Louise (Smith) Shepherd, 77, of Cumberland, died Friday, June 14, 2013 at The Golden Living Center.

Born Nov. 1, 1935 in Moorefield, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Carl W. Smith and Sue Catherine (Bean) Smith.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Joseph “Joe” Smith, John Robert “Buddy” Smith, and James “Jim” Smith.

Survivors include her son, John Shepherd and wife Nancy, Cumberland; three grandchildren, John  “J.P.” Shepherd Jr., Dustin Shepherd, and Lydia Shepherd; her siblings, Virginia Caton and husband Stanley, Oldtown, Jean Robinette, Cumberland, Judy Liller and husband Tony, Cumberland, Rose Spooler and husband Steve, Cumberland, Patricia Knotts, Cumberland, Michael Smith and wife Donna, Ridgeley, W.Va., Thomas Smith, Wiley Ford, W.Va., and Annette Howsare, Cumberland; and her two faithful companions, dogs, Rocket and Zeus.

Martha was retired from J & N Beverage, where she had been a sales clerk for over 20 years.

She loved baking, sewing and doing crafts, and giving the items to family and friends to enjoy.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene, St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Benny Brakeall officiating.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kessel, W.Va.
