CUMBERLAND — Russell Lucas Livengood Jr., 84, of Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born April 30, 1929, in Cumberland, Mr. Livengood was the son of the late Russell Lucas Livengood Sr. and Julia Grace (McCreary) Livengood. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronald E. “Jack” Livengood.

A graduate of Allegany High School, class of 1947, Russell was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War having attained the rank of sergeant, and retired from the City of Cumberland Fire Department with 42 years of service and 24 years as Fire Chief of the Fire Department. Russell was an active member of the First Baptist Church for more than 70 years where he served as deacon, trustee, church moderator, Sunday school teacher, and served on the Church Council. He was a life-member of The International Association of Fire Chiefs. Russell was also a member of the National Fire Protection Association; the State of Maryland Fire Chiefs Association; the Allegany County Fire Board; the Allegany County Emergency Planning Committee; the City of Cumberland Board of Zoning Appeals and Civil Service Commission; the Appeals Commission; the Board of Directors of the Allegany Museum; the Board of Directors of the Potomac Credit Union and served as President of an Investment Group; and the Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion.

Russell is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 63 1/2 years, Doris Lee (White) Livengood, who he married on Jan. 28, 1950; his daughters, Carole Lynn Livengood and husband Richard, of Gallup, N.M. and Sandra Lee Armstrong and husband William, of Lancaster, Va. He also leaves behind his sister, Shirley L. Geary and husband Glenn, of Cumberland; his sisters-in-law, Patricia Livengood and Bonnie Lewis and husband Ronald, all of Cumberland; his grandchildren, Angela D. Mc-Nall and husband David, of Ojai, Calif., C. Scott Miller and wife Cassandra, of Palmyra, Va., Gregg A. Miller, of Truckee, Calif. and Daniel R. Armstrong and wife Kathryn, of Lancaster, Va.; nine great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, ( on Friday, June 21, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Timothy Turner officiating.

Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Russell’s name to the First Baptist Church, 212 Bedford St., Cumberland, MD 21502 or to the Allegany Museum, Three Pershing St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
