ROBERT A. “KARO” ZEMBOWER SR. [Centerville, Pa.]

CENTERVILLE, Pa. —  Robert “Karo” Ambrose Zembower Sr., 83, of Centerville, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 at his home.

Born July 30, 1930, in Cumberland, Mr. Zembower was the son of the late James Reese Zembower and Lola (Cessna) Zembower.  He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Audrey Boden Coleman and Vivian Anderson.

Karo was a United States Naval Veteran for four years after World War II, having served onboard heavy cruisers and battleships throughout the Mediterranean and Europe.  He retired from the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America with 30 years of service and later was employed at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 245.  Karo was involved in many sports leagues at Celanese and local bowling leagues.  He was an avid golfer receiving recognition throughout the tri-state area and won several tournaments having three holes-in-one.  Karo was an active figure in several local social clubs.  His life was lived by the words of his favorite song by Frank Sinatra, “My Way.”

Karo is survived by his daughter, Kim Crabtree and husband, Terry, Rock Hill, S.C.; his son, Robert Zembower,Jr. and wife, Susan, Wilmington, Del.; his granddaughter, Trisha Clinton and husband, Rusty; and his great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Aspen Clinton, all of Rock Hill.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, ( on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 at 1 p.m.

Interment will be in Fellowship Cemetery, Centerville.

The family would like to thank the many friends and family that helped their Dad over the past years.
