WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Winona (Childs) Lewis, 82, of Winter Haven, Fla., formerly of Oakland, died on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at her daughter’s home in Winter Haven.
She was born on Dec. 16, 1930, in Oakland, the daughter of the late James Childs and Sylvia (Childs) Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Harsh and a brother, Arthur Childs.
Winona had a long career with the Garrett County school board where she rose to the position of Purchasing Agent for the school system’s cafeteria program. In addition, she was a long-time accountant, specializing in small business accounting and tax preparation. She regularly attended Beymer Memorial United Methodist Church in Winter Haven and was a member of the Deep Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by four children, Stanley Weese, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Diane Buerger, of Winter Haven, Philip Weese, of Winter Haven and Bethany Lewis, of Fontana, Calif.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two brothers, Roy Childs, of The Villages, Fla. and Forest Childs, of Rupert, W.Va.
Friends will be received on Friday, June 14, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. 2nd St., Oakland, where funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 15, at 10 a.m. with her son, Pastor Stanley E. Weese, officiating.
