MAXINE “POLLY” HAWK [New Creek, W.Va.]

NEW CREEK, W.Va. — Maxine “Polly” Hawk, 87, of New Creek, (Laureldale Community), died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at her residence.

Born on Dec. 14, 1925, at Laureldale, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Lewis Lee and Margie (McNeill) Kuh. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Charles Kuh.

Mrs. Hawk was formerly employed as a seamstress with the Sew-Rite Lingerie Company and Perfection Garment Company, both formerly of Keyser. She was a 1945 graduate of Keyser High School and was very active with the reunion committee of her graduating class and the Fabulous Forties Group.

She was a member of the Laureldale United Methodist Church, was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Queen's Point Memorial Post 6775, VFW, McCoole and also served as an election poll worker for many years.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Kermit M. “Nip” Hawk; her daughter, Patsy Dettinburn and husband Albert, of Laureldale; three grandchildren, Alanna Kuhn, Day Dettinburn and Benjamin Dettinburn and three great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Sheldon Kuhn and Albert Ferley. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews which include Charles "Larry" Kuh, Kathy Alt and Robin (Kuh) Barker and her special companion, her Jack Russell Terrier “Candy.”

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Laureldale United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Marple, the Rev. Vivan Watts and the Rev. Daniel Stemple officiating. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Maysville Cemetery, Mays-ville, W.Va.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and friendship.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Laureldale United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 184, New Creek, WV 26743.
