ROMNEY, W.Va. — Gladys Josephine Beatty Shanholtz, 89, of Romney, went to be with the Lord on April 24, 2014 at the Kensington Assisted Living Home where she had been residing in Cumberland.

Born on Jan. 1, 1925 in Star City, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry G. Beatty and Lula Alice (Shanholtzer) Beatty.

She was a homemaker, Sunday school teacher and enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She was a member of the Family Ministry Church in Wiley Ford, W.Va. She was a 1942 graduate of Romney High School. In earlier years Gladys was a telephone operator at the Romney office. She also worked at the Kelly plant in Cumberland contributing to the war efforts of World War II. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, George B. Shanholtz; also preceded by four sisters and two brothers.

Surviving is a son, George B. Shanholtz Jr. and wife Cindy of Coeurd’Alene, Idaho; a daughter, Constance V. Shanholtz of Romney; a brother, Bernard V. Beatty of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Andrea Lynn Coulson and husband Rick, of Occoquan, Va., Richard Glenn Shanholtz and wife Kelli of Liberty Lake, Wash., Kara Lynn Shanholtz of Coeurd’Alene; a number of nieces and nephews; a special niece, Susan Knisley of Short Gap, W.Va.; and a friend of the family Leroy Wolford of Romney.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 1 p.m. in McKee Funeral Home Chapel, 115 E. Birch Lane, Romney, with Pastor Kenneth Craddock officiating. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney.

The family will receive friends on Monday from noon until time of service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Romney.
