JOHN P. JONES [Elkins, W.Va.]

ELKINS, W.Va. — John Paul Jones, 55, of Elkins, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at his home in Oakland.

John was born in Elkins on Nov. 30, 1958. He was the son of the late Robert Paul Jones.

He is survived by his beloved wife and soul mate, Deborah Jones. He is also survived by his mother, Patricia Hansford Beery, and his step-father, Fred Beery, of Parsons, W.Va.; two sons, John William “J.W.” Jones and wife, Amanda, Elkins, and Brad Thompson and wife, Christy, Wendell, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John William “Jack” Jones; grandmother, Isabelle Jones; and his uncle, James “Jim” Jones. John was also a cancer survivor.

The love of John’s life were his grandchildren, Kourtney Nicole Jones, daughter of J.W. and Amanda, Kelcey Nicole Thompson and Cameron Brayden Thompson, children of Brad and Christie Thompson. Caitlyn Rennix, daughter of Laurie and Burl Rennix, Valley Bend, W.Va. is an “adopted granddaughter”, as John said, not by blood but by love. John loved his very special friends “Skip” and Sig Campbell of Middletown, Ohio and Alan and Sue White of Elkins. John loved and is survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, family, and friends, that are too numerous to mention, but you know who you are. He loved each and every one of you dearly.

John owned and operated Autocrafters Body Shop in Elkins, where many great conversations and laughter were had, stories were told and not much work got done. He had many longtime clients and business associates that he considered close friends. He was also a bus driver for Randolph County Schools. He loved to see the many children on his bus run every day and to share bus stories with anyone that would listen. John enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Mount Storm, W.Va., where he began hunting, as a youth, with his grandfather and special friends. John has carried that tradition on with his children and grandchildren. He loved “the mountain” and his many friends that he had there. He was a proud member of the Sportsman Club of Deer Park, Mountain Top Hunting Club in Thomas, W.Va., and the Elks Lodge in Elkins. John loved life to the fullest and enjoyed seeing others laugh and enjoy themselves.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, in the funeral home chapel with James Reed officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Care Center, 801 Harrison Ave., Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of John.

The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.
