DUSSELDORF, Germany — Larry D. Cornell, 71, of Dusseldorf, Germany and formerly of Petersburg, W.Va., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, in Germany after a brief illness.
He was born May 23, 1941, in Petersburg, W.Va., and was a son of the late Delmer “Mopey” Cornell and Ethel (Turner) Cornell. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne Cornell.
Larry graduated from Petersburg High School and served in the United States Army from 1959-1979 (Korea, Vietnam and later stationed in Germany.) He and his wife Gail moved to Petersburg, W.Va., in 1979 until his retirement in 2003. He was a former city police from 1980-1992 and served in the Grant County Sheriff Department from 1992-2003.
He enjoyed watching sports, movies and the TV series CSI. He looked forward to his trips back to the States to visit family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Cornell, of Unter den Eichen, 3340625, Dusseldorf, Germany; one sister, June Murphy, of Moorefield, W.Va.; several nieces, nephews and special friends, Randy and Pam Keplinger and their family, of Petersburg, W.Va.
Funeral services and burial were in Germany.
