FROSTBURG — Emma Taccino Montana, 101, died on Friday, Jan. 11. 2013 at the WMHS Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Frostburg. Emma, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother will be remembered by her family and friends for her indomitable and loving spirit, wonderful sense of humor, zest for life and her devotion to her family.
She was born March 1, 1911, in Frostburg, the third child of Anthony and Julia Taccino. She graduated from Beall High School where she captained the girls' basketball team. She was married 54 years to Joseph Paul Montana who preceded her in death in 1991. She was also preceded in the deaths of three brothers, three sisters and son-in-law, Dr. Richard Johnson of LaVale. She is survived by one sister, Betty Mills and husband Joe; and two daughters, Barbara Johnson of LaVale and Yvonne (Vonnie) Kimbrough and husband Dr. Houston Kimbrough of Summerfield, N.C. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and their children.
She was a devoted and supportive grandmother to her grandchildren, Wendy Johnson Bilas and husband Jay of Charlotte, N.C., Christopher Johnson and wife Karen of Jamestown, N.C., Marta Johnson Fiscus and husband Steven of Cumberland, Ashley Kimbrough Mink and husband Jay of Charlotte, N.C., Houston (Tripp) Kimbrough and wife Anna of Greensboro, N.C., Summers Kimbrough McMurray and husband Torrey of Knoxville, Tenn. She was the proud great-grandmother of Tori and Anthony Bilas; So-phia, Ava and Claire Johnson; Adron and Julian Fiscus; Ju-liana, Phoebe and Thomas Mink; Ella and Houston Kimbrough IV and Shepard, Lan-dry and Graeme McMurray.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to her loyal friends and caregivers, Mary Frances Ayers and Joyce Tharp, whose many years of love and devotion were invaluable. The family also wishes to express its gratitude to the kind and caring staff of WMHS Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Family and friends will be received at Sowers Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. with her grandson, the Rev. Tripp Kimbrough officiating.
Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
