Linda Kay Hampton [Oldtown]

OLDTOWN — Linda Kay Hampton, 50, of Oldtown, died following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer on Monday, July 12, 2010, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born May 31, 1960 in Cumberland, Mrs. Hampton was the daughter of Walter Howard Shaffer, Cresaptown, and the late Marie Janet (Browning) Shaffer.

Linda was a certified nursing assistant for the State of Maryland Department of Social Services and retired because of her illness. Linda loved her job and always said that she felt like she had nine different grandparents. In previous years, Linda worked at Fox’s Pizza Den, Dolly’s Sub Shop, Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Frostburg Village Nursing Home, Memorial Hospital and the Rocky Gap Lodge.

Linda will be sadly missed by her children, her family, the new love of her life — her grandson, her friends, and her precious pets, Fuzz and Lucky.

Most of all, Linda will be sadly missed by Kevin, her husband. To him, Linda was not only a wife, but a lover, and most of all, his best friend. I will always love you, and until we see each other again, babe.

Linda enjoyed collecting bears and Coca-Cola items. She also enjoyed fishing, going to yard sales and auctions, playing cards, traveling to Canada, and just being with family. Linda was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Oldtown.

Linda is survived by her husband of 30+ years, D. Kevin Hampton; her sons, Edward Red Hampton and his wife, Brittany and John Richard Hampton and his wife, Rachel, all of Cumberland; her daughter, Misty Lynn Hampton and her fiancé, Robert Crissey, Oldtown; her brothers, Thomas Shaffer and his wife, Cindy, Cumberland and Mike Shaffer and his wife, Donna, Prince George’s, Va.: her sister, Sandy Hill and her husband, Jeff, Gulf Breeze, Fla.; her grandson, Aaron Crissey; and her mother and father-in-law, Richard and Shirley Gift.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Thursday, July 15, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, July 16, 2010 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Stemple officiating.

Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Piper, Don Fisher, Jake Parry, Randy Baechtel, Charlie Bart-lett, and Leo Lavin.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to family and friends from work, social services, the State Highway Administration, church, neighbors, doctors, nurses, and the angels from Hospice for the love and care shown to Linda and her family. Sometimes, just to talk was that little bit that meant so much to both of us. Thanks again.
