— CUMBERLAND — Sherman Samuel Weatherholt, 95, of Cumberland, died Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 15, 1918 in Kitzmiller, he was the son of the late Samuel Talbot Weatherholt and Mary Ellen (Murray) Weatherholt.

He was also preceded in death by his son, William Edwin “Chuck” Weatherholt; his sister, Annie Alice Conant; three brothers, Floyd Allan Weatherholt, William Murray Weatherholt, and Carl Raymond Weatherholt; one grandson, Robert Weatherholt; and, a great-grandson Brandon Davis, USN.

Sherman was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he had been a radio operator and repairman.

Mr. Weatherholt was a foreman for the Cumberland News (now Cumberland Times-News), for 48 years. He retired through Teamsters and Chauffeurs Local 453.

He belonged to Potomac Lodge 100, A.F. & A.M.; Salem Chapter 18, R.A.M.; and Antioch Commandery 6, Knights Templar; and Ali Ghan Shrine. Sherman joined Ali Ghan Shrine in 1962, where he had held offices in the Directors Staff; was Unit Heads President (4 years), treasurer (25 years), and representative (30 years). In addition, he had served on committees for the picnic grounds, finance, budget, Relief Association, football, chili cook-off, Potentate’s Ball, Easter Egg Hunt, building, MASA, and Temple publicity. Mr. Weatherholt was yearbook editor for 20 years. He was the editor for the Ali Ghan newsletter for eight years and helped with the mailing of the newsletter for several decades.

In addition, Sherman was a life member of Lodge 63, B.P.O.E.; member of Aerie 245, F.O.E.; Henry Hart Post 1411, V.F.W.; and life member of Ft. Cumberland Post 13, American Legion. Mr. Weatherholt had also managed Little League and Hot Stove League teams.

Survivors include his wife, Louise (Grogg) Weatherholt; two daughters, Janet Grams, Phoenix, Ariz., and Sara Suzanne Parker, Manassas, Va.; three half-brothers, Franklin DeSales Weatherholt, Mark Clark Weatherholt, and John Charles Weatherholt; two half-sisters, Betty Jane Richtmeyer and Sue Ellen Rowe; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and, numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Potomac Lodge 100, A.F. & A.M. will conduct a memorial service at 12:45 p.m. in the funeral home.

The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt, Jr., officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, where military honors will be accorded by Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Ali Ghan Shrine Directors Staff.
