— KEYSER, W.Va. — Ethel V. Schaeffer, 89, of Funderburg St., Keyser, W.Va., and formerly of Westernport, died at her residence on Saturday, July 20, 2013. She was born in Keyser, W.Va., on April 10, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Ernest W. Miller and Myrtle V. (Ludwick) Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Schaeffer who died in 1993, and three brothers; Orval, Ira and Roy Miller.

Ethel was a member of Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Westernport, and a member and past Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America Council 495 in Westernport, and was for many years a member of the Westernport Senior Citizens Center. She worked for many years as a volunteer for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile at Luke and Westernport. She was a member of the Town and Country CEO’s in Keyser, W.Va. She graduated from Potomac State College and worked for the Celanese Corp, Fruit Growers Express and Potomac Edison. She loved to travel.

Ethel is survived by two daughters, Catherine Blessing and husband Joe, of Falls Church, Va., and Frances Schaeffer of Westernport; four sons, John Schaeffer and wife Connie of Eldersburg, Gregory Schaeffer and wife Lisa of Cogan Station, Pa., Leo Schaeffer of Short Gap, W.Va., and William Schaeffer and wife Karen of Keyser, W.Va. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a special nephew, Ernie Layman of Westernport.

The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, W.Va., on Tuesday, July 23, from 5 until 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Father Ed Hendricks as celebrant.

Interment will be in Saint Peter’s Cemetery.

The family has requested that memorials for their mother be directed to Saint Peter’s Improvement Fund, 127 Church St. Westernport, MD. 21562
