JOHN V. STIMMETZ [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — John Vincent Stimmetz, 78, of Cumberland, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born Jan. 1, 1935, in Cumberland, John was the son of the late Irvin Stimmetz and Mary (Porter) Stimmetz. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Eric and John R. Stimmetz; three brothers, George Stimmetz, Francis Stimmetz, and Irvin Stimmetz Jr.; eight sisters, Gladys Ritchie, Katherine Perry, Edna Scharf, Thelma Wharton, Ann Phillips, Regina Long, Martha Natale, and Margaret Peer.

A United States Army veteran, John was a member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 616 working for various local contractors since he was 16. John was also a member of the Full Gospel Pentecostal Church. He was an avid Steelers, Yankees, and NASCAR fan.

John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Esther (Zembower) Stimmetz; his children, Candy Peters and husband, Rev. Jim Peters, Cresaptown, Robert Stimmetz and wife, Paula, Diane Schoenodel and husband, Bill, all of Cumberland, and Mark Stimmetz and wife, Christa, Keyser, W.Va. He also leaves behind his sisters, Josephine Aldridge and Fidelis “Pete” McMillan; his grandchildren, Rachel Dupree and husband, Christopher; Rebekah, Bethany, Barbara, Robin, John, Dawn, Derek, Hayden, and Justen; his great-grandchildren, Nicole, Payton, Parker, Cory, McKenzie, and Tagon; and his feline friend, Squeakers.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland,  (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Full Gospel Pentecostal Church, 477 Eastern Ave., Cumberland, on Friday, July 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Peters officiating. There will be two special speakers, the Rev. Jack Lease and Dr. Tom Ghobrial. The family will also receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Gino Giatras, Donnie Martin, Terry Paetow, Michael Paetow, Justen Stimmetz, and John Stimmetz.
