CUMBERLAND — Naomi Elizabeth Rankin, 99, of Cumberland, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 28, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Henry Martin and Lulu Virginia (Iser) Silvious. Naomi was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Rankin; her son and only child Eugene Walter Rankin; five brothers, Carroll T Silvious, Kenneth M Silvious, Randolph E Silvious, Raymond H Silvious and Herbert C Silvious and two sisters, Evelyn P. Silvious and Alice E. Rummer.
Naomi retired from the Schwab Company as a seamstress and supervisor. She was also employed at the Celanese Corporation. She loved her family, cooking and traveling. She saw everything she wanted to see. She was young at heart, looking forward to her 100th birthday which would have been celebrated on September 28. Her kitties Star, Raven and Tiger dearly miss her.
Surviving is her daughter-in-law Betty Rankin, of Cumberland; two grandchildren Debra Benson, of Cumberland and John Rankin and wife Jessica, of Cumberland; six great-grandchildren, Joseph Benson III, Nicole Beeghly and husband Josh, Jasmine Benson, John Rankin Jr, Teddy Rankin and Scarlett Rankin, all of Cumberland; two great-great-grandchildren, Alina Benson and Mackenzie Beeghly, of Cumberland; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Silvious and Lois Silvious, of Cumberland and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, PA, 108 Virginia Ave. (www.scarpellifh.com) on Monday, July 22, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Barbara Groves officiating.
Interment will follow in Abe Cemetery, Old Furnace Road, Short Gap, W.Va.
