CUMBERLAND — CUMBERLAND — Elwood “Bob” Robert Rowley, 71, of Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2013, at the Western  Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 16, 1941, in Somerset, Pa., Mr. Rowley was the son of the late Elwood Mitchell Rowley and Emma Mary (Testa) Rowley. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Mark S. Rowley; and two sisters, Jo Ann and Barbara Rowley.

Bob graduated from Fort Hill High School, Class of 1959, the University of Virginia and went on to play professional football with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets. Bob had a fulfilling Christian life, embracing everyone he met with an open heart, and spreading his generosity and warmth to those who had the opportunity to know him. He was a faithful member and strong supporter of the Davis Memorial Church for 71 years.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Katherine Simpson and husband, Nathan, Cumberland; his son, Andrew D. Rowley and wife, Corin, Lafayette, Ind.; and four grandchildren, Anthony and Tyson Simpson and Ashtyn and Gabriel Rowley. He also leaves behind a brother, Raymond J. Rowley, Cumberland; his sisters, Lillian Jacobs and husband, J. Thomas, Frostburg, Linda Snoots, Cumberland, Debbie Slider and husband, William, Oldtown, Patricia Rowley, and Darlene Rowley, both of Cumberland; his wife and mother of his children, Priscilla Rowley, Indianapolis, Ind.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, ( on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robert Wellman officiating.

Interment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Bob’s name to the Davis Memorial Church, 14300 Uhl Highway, SE, Cumberland 21502; or, the Union Rescue Mission, Post Office Box 1614, Cumberland 21501-1614; or, the WMHS Home Hospice, 1050 West Industrial Bvld., Cumberland 21502.
