CUMBERLAND — Geraldine Rebecca (Lewis) Taylor, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland. Born on July 18, 1926 in Wiley Ford, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James Thomas Gerald Lewis of Cumberland and Ruth Howdershell Lewis of Moorefield W.Va. Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Haze Irvin Taylor of Moorefield W.Va, on Dec. 22, 1995. She was also preceded by four brothers, Harold Edwin Lewis, Andrew Jackson Lewis, James Franklin Lewis, and Ronald Carroll Lewis.
Geraldine was a regular attendee of the South Cumberland Assembly of God Church, in Cumberland. She was a former employee of the Celanese Corporation, and Kelly-Springfield Tire and Rubber Co., and was a devoted mother/grandmother/ great-grandmother, who loved to cook for and take care of her family and friends. She was a 1944 graduate of Fort Hill High School. She was graduate of Catherman’s Business School.
She is survived by two sons, Donald I. Taylor and wife, Kimberly, of Cumberland, and James F. Taylor and wife Joy of Cumberland; two daughters, Ruth Y. Burkett and husband Ivan, of Hyndman, Pa., and Rebecca T. Lewis and husband Frank of Moorefield, W.Va. Geraldine is also survived by three sisters, Madore M. Duncan of Frostburg, Jenny R Lewis of Nashville, Tenn., and Aunt Patti of Cumberland; two brothers, Thomas G. Lewis, Humble, Texas and Herbert O. Lewis, Nashville, Tenn.; one aunt, Ina V. Ludwig-Brashears and husband William of Baltimore, as well as 12 grandchildren, Donnie, Kara, Kellyn, Karly, Ruthie, Andy, Jenni, Jimmy, Johnny, Catie, Chris, and Gerritt and 11 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jacob, Payton, Madison, Isaac, Alyvia, Ashlyn, Connor, Brody, Liam, and Callie Jayne. She was also survived by her lifetime best friend, Barbara Deremer, Corriganville.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Scarpelli Funeral Home 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland (www.scarpellifh.com). A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the South Cumberland Assembly of God in Cumberland with Pastor Gene Riffey officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in the ‘Garden of the Last Supper,’ in Cumberland. Pallbearers will be her six grandsons, Andrew L. Burkett of Hyndman Pa., Donald H. Taylor of Cumberland, James F. Taylor II of Cumberland, Christofer M. Dayton of Rawlings, Gerritt C. Dayton of Moorefield W.Va., and Johnathan F. Taylor of Cumberland.
