JACOB D. TAYLOR JR. [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Jacob Denward Taylor Jr., 89, of Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.

Born Aug. 11, 1923, in Cumberland, Mr. Taylor was the son of the late Jacob D. Taylor Sr. and Edith (Hollingsworth) Taylor.  He was also preceded in death by two sons, Jesse York Sr. and John York Sr.; a daughter, Margaret Everland York; a great-grandson, Tyrell York; four brothers, Earl Taylor, Henry Taylor, Howard Taylor and Phillip Taylor and five sisters, Edith Dean, Virginia Beckward, Isabelle Greene, Dorothy Purchase and Bertha Hurtt.

A United States Army veteran during World War II, Jacob was retired from the Cumberland Steel Mill. He was a former member of McKendree United Methodist Church where he was also a member of the male chorus. He was a current member of Metropolitan A.M.E. Church where he also served as a Deacon. He was also a member of Fulton Myers Post 153 American Legion, the Maryland Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Ancient York Right Mason’s National Compact, Inc.

Jacob is survived by his wife of 46 years, Luvernie Taylor; three sons, James D. York, David York and Daniel L. York, all of Cumberland; three daughters, Ruthie Turner and husband Greg, of Washington, D.C., Loverne Monroe and Darlene D. York, both of Cumberland; a brother, Ray Taylor and wife Doris, of Cumberland; a sister, Mary Jane Twyman, of Cumberland; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Thursday, March 21, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, March 22, 2013, from 9 to 11 a.m.

A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday, March 22, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Alfred Deas Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Military honors will be ac-corded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
