DONALD E. “BUZZY” LEE [Keyser, W.Va.]

KEYSER, W.Va. — Donald Eugene “Buzzy” Lee, 85, of Keyser, passed away at home on Thursday, March 21. 2013.

Born in Lonaconing on Sept. 25, 1927, he was a son of the late James Henry Lee and Ethel Isabel (Myers) Lee. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Lee, Robert “Bobby” E. Lee and James L. Lee.

A 1945 graduate of Central High School in Lonaconing, he spent six months in the Merchant Marines in late 1945. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict from 1950 to 1952 where he served in the U.S. Army Combat Engineers. He was a lifetime member of the Nancy Hanks VFW Post 3518.

Upon his return from active duty, he worked various machinist jobs in Cleveland, Ohio and later returned to this area working for Allegany Ballistics Laboratories and Kelly Springfield Tire and Rubber Company from 1965 until the plant closed in 1987. He ended his machinist career taking Union 1024 assignments at the Mount Storm Power Plant and Westvaco until his retirement in 1990.

Donald worked often in his garden, flowerbeds, and maintained a neat home and yard. He enjoyed hunting and fishing through the years and closely followed athletics with a special fondness for WVU football, Maryland basketball, Keyser High School sports and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was also a blood donor giving 85 pints of blood during his lifetime until his health forced him to stop in 2001.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Marguerite (Allen) Lee; two sons, Anthony J. Lee, of Levels, W.Va. and Adam N. Lee and wife Donna, of Evington, Va.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and three sisters, Virginia Smith, of Lonaconing, Lucy Venable and husband Frank, of Front Royal, Va. and Ruth Dye and husband Donald, of Garrett County. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Jackie Kennedy Lee, Carol Thompson Lee and Edna Mary Crumpler and one brother-in-law, Edmund R. Allen. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, along with close friend Bob Pratt and fellow neighbors Frank Fortner, Lee Rembold, and Brian Billmyre.

He would like to thank his doctors, Gregg Donaldson, Blanche Mavromatis, Scott Watkins, Subrato Deb and all the nurses who helped him during his many visits to the WMHS and the Schwab Family Cancer Center. Special thanks for the attentive care from his home care nurse Lala Miner and his hospice nurse Jennifer Rose-dale during the last weeks of his life. Your care and concern for him and his family are greatly appreciated.

Upon his request, his body has been donated to the Human Gift Registry in Morgantown, W.Va.

There will be no visitation, but a memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the church he attended, Church of the Assumption, 34 James St., Keyser, with Father Ivan M. Lebar, T.O.R. as celebrant. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to the Schwab Family Cancer Center, 12500 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD 21502 or the American Diabetes Association, 2002 Clipper Park Road, Suite 110, Baltimore, MD 21211.

Local arrangements have been entrusted to the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser.
