EMILY J. GILLASPIE [Mount Storm, W.Va.]

— MOUNT STORM, W.Va. —  Emily J. Gillaspie, 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 3, 2013, at Oakland Nursing and Rehab Center, Oakland, while recovering from a fall.   

Born Emily Josephine Paugh on June 25, 1917 in Gorman, she was a daughter of the late Oliver Clayton and Lucy Victoria (Bosley) Paugh and widow of the late Burlin W. Gillaspie. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Guy William Paugh; a stepsister, Virginia Maine Gates; a stepbrother, Charles Edgar; two sons, Darrell Gillaspie and Glenville Gillaspie; three daughters-in-law, Marilyn Gillaspie, Shirley Gillaspie and Helen Gillaspie; a son-in-law, Ray Sullivan; and three grandchildren.

Emily retired in 1981 after 35 plus years of service at the Mount Storm Elementary School and Union Education Complex as a cook. She was famous for her homemade rolls, pies and noodles. Emily’s joy and treasures in life were being with family and friends and cooking for them. As a mother, grandmother and friend, she always gave her laughter and unconditional love to all.

A life-time member of Mount Storm United Methodist Church, Emily taught Sunday school for many years. She was an active member of her community and church.

Surviving are her two sons, Kenneth Gillaspie of Baltimore, Harold Gillaspie of Mount Storm; only daughter, Norma Sullivan of Shipman, Va.; two daughters-in-law, Dorothy Gillaspie and Marie Gillaspie; 13 grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and several beloved nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two stepsisters, Louise Pennington and Mary Catherine Sollars.

Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday, May 6, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at Mount Storm United Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rebecca L. Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.  

Interment will follow in Mount Storm Cemetery.
