VIOLA M. GERHART [Meyserdale, Pa.]

MEYERSDALE, Pa. — Viola Mae Gerhart, 86, of Meyersdale, died May 12, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, Pa.

Born Feb. 3, 1927 in Glencoe, the daughter of Walter and Naomi (Kennell) Emerick.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Homer G. “Whitey” Gerhart; brothers, Leo, Frank and Arlo Emerick; and sister, Shirley Emerick.

Survived by her daughters, Judy VanMeter and husband David, Cumberland, Linda VanMeter, wife of the late James VanMeter, Wellersburg, Bonnie Tressler and husband Ralph, Meyersdale and Patty Amann and husband Tim, Meyersdale; grandchildren, David VanMeter Jr., Ralph Tressler Jr., Amy Long and James VanMeter Jr.; her nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, were the joy of her life. Also survived by sisters, Nancy Keefer and husband Albert, Mary Alice Reese and husband John; brother, David “Tom” Emerick and wife Deb, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Bob and Bertha Long, who were close neighbors and friends who provided her with wonderful care.

Viola was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who loved spending time with her family and gardening. Thank you for being a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Kathleen A. Barberio officiating.

Interment Zion Cemetery, Wellersburg.
