CUMBERLAND — Catherine Ann Maiers, 62, of Cumberland, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2013 at her home after a long and courageous battle with a severe illness for over seven years in which she has been homebound and bedfast going into her seventh year on the twelfth of March 2013. With the love of family and friends and surrounded by a host of angels, Kay was carried Home in the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ, and entered into Heaven where there will be no more suffering or pain.

Kay or Kittie, as she was affectionately known, was born on June 15, 1950, at the old Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland.  She was the daughter of the late George F. and Marie (Heier) Kearchner. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Esther M. Courtney; two brothers, George F. Kearchner and John H. Kearchner, and a niece, Cindy Farris.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ronald W. Maiers, Cumberland; a son, Kenneth W. Maiers and his significant other, Angela McDonald, Romney, W.Va.; a daughter, Rhonda Kay (Maiers) Eyler and husband Jason “Jay,” Cumberland. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Marcella C. Maiers, Frederick, Matthew D.C. Maiers, Kayelyn N. Eyler and Lucas H.L. Eyler; three step-grandchildren, Jarred Sa-ville, Trent Saville and Zeke McDonald; and a great-granddaughter on the way, Baylee M. Maiers.

Kay was also survived by sisters-in-law, Carol (Maiers) Kesler and husband James, Patricia A. (Maiers) Todd and husband Richard (Dick) and their boys, Troy Todd and wife Suzanna, Cumberland, and Christopher Todd; and sister-in-law, Joyce (Landis)(Maiers) Elliott; sisters, Patty Himes, Coalton, W.Va., and Diane (Kearchner) Westfall, brothers, Daniel Kearchner, Wayne Kearchner and Terry Kearchner, all of Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, ( on Thursday, March 14, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Eric Gauchat, O.F.M., Cap. officiating.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Maiers, Scott and Garrett Maiers, Chris Todd and Gary Zembower. Honorary pallbearer is Troy Todd.

Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery.

I would like to thank Dr. R. Barrera, his staff, Western Maryland Home Health Care and all their nurses and aides, Staff Hospice Nurses, Aides and Staff, Western Maryland Health System and Devlin Manor Nursing Home, and Thomas Bostaph CRNP and his staff for all they have done to see that Kay had the best of care. A special thanks to Johanna Brode for the professional care she afforded Kay and to all the other Home Health Sitters who have cared for Kay during her illness.   THANK YOU ALL, GOD BLESS AND SEE YOU AT THE HOUSE.
