OLDTOWN — Marlene E. VanMeter, 89, of Oldtown, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at her home.
Born June 30, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Walter Francis and Beatrice (Carder) Kifer. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Vernon VanMeter and two brothers, Howell Kifer and Ashbey Kifer.
Mrs. VanMeter was retired from ABL (now ATK) where she worked for over twenty years. She was a life member of Oldtown VFW Clifford B Sisler Post 9451 Auxiliary. She was a member of the Oldtown Methodist Church. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved her flower gardens.
Surviving are one twin brother, Merle Kifer, of Palm Bay, Fla.; five nieces, Susan Simpson and husband Bill, of Spring Gap, Lee Whorton and husband Buck, of Oldtown, Glenna Slider and husband Gene, of Oldtown, Josephine Hinchman and husband Jim, of Palm Bay, Fla. and Beatrice Hibbard and husband Jim, of White Ponds, Tenn. and a nephew, Dale VanMeter and wife Barbara, of Oldtown.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland (www.scarpellifh.com) on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Charles Riggleman officiating.
Interment will be at Tearcoat Cemetery in Augusta, W.Va.
