OAKLAND — James Woodrow Gordon, 89, of Oakland, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.

Born March 30, 1923, in Table Rock, he was the son of the late Thomas William and Dora (Rinker) Gordon. He was also preceded in death by his twin brother, John Gordon; one sister, Virginia Miller; two stepbrothers, Floyd Gordon and Lem Gordon and two stepsisters, Anna Gordon and Mable Boring.

James was a U.S. Navy veteran serving with the 87th Seabee Battalion and a member of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71, Oakland. He graduated from Oakland High School in 1941 and was a carpenter by trade.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Catherine (Neel) Gordon; three sons, Larry William Gordon, of Oakland, Charles Woodrow Gordon and wife Louise, of Silver Lake, W.Va. and James Allen Gordon and wife Tammy, of Oakland; one daughter, Dianna Carol Bittinger and husband Rodger, of Swanton; one brother, Earl “Dutch” Gordon, of Oakland; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 203 S. Second St., Oakland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gary Meeks officiating.

Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the various veterans’ organizations of Southern Garrett County.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Southern Garrett County Rescue Squad.
