always believed that the Lord

was walking with him through

all his trails and tribulations.

On Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 the

Lord took him on his final journey.

On his final journey home

and into the arms of his

beloved Thelma to rejoice with

the Saints in Heaven.

Robert H. “Bob” Ashenfelter,

80, of Cumberland passed

away at the Western Maryland

Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 20, 1931, in Wiley

Ford, W.Va., he was the son of

the late Ernest Hammond

Ashenfelter and Ethel Mae

(Brant) Ayers. He is preceded

in death by his wife, Thelma

(Evans) Ashenfelter; a special

brother-in-law, Frank Evans

whom he thought of as a son;

brothers, Arthur, Kenneth,

Carl, Russell and Floyd

Ashenfelter; and sisters, Thelma

Seeders and Helen Murray.

He retired from PPG Industries.

He served in the Korean

War as a staff sergeant with

the Air Force. He was a member

of Ft. Cumberland Post 13

American Legion. And he was

a member of Davis Memorial

Church. Bob was also a member

of the Apple Butter Group

at Davis Memorial Church.

And was a member of the

Men’s Christian Saturday

Morning Breakfast Group of

Davis Memorial Church

He is survived by three

daughters, Georgette Smith

and Husband George, Mount

Savage, Rebecca Murphy,

Louisville, Ky. and Edna

Wright and husband Gary,

Cumberland; one son, Robert

H. Ashenfelter II and wife

Terri, Cumberland; two sisters,

Hazel Davidson, Virginia

and Bonnie Harris, Idaho; two

brothers, Jerry Ashenfelter,

Cumberland and Jim Ashenfelter,

Indiana; six sisters-inlaw,

Geraldine Evans, Cumberland,

Josette Evans, Cumberland,

Laura Watts, Cumberland,

Mae Cockrum, Oldtown,

Louise Ashenfelter,

Cumberland, Mary Ann Appel,

Hagerstown; two brothers-inlaw,

Joe Hefner, Cumberland

and Duane Murray, Pennsylvania;

seven grandchildren,

Jennifer Schade and husband

Michael, Germantown, Jessica

McCoy and husband Adam,

Wincherster, Va., Nikki Ashenfelter

and friend Mike

Andreach, Ridgeley, W.Va.,

Miranda Murphy and friend

Bryan Smith, Louisville,

Heather Ashenfelter, Cumberland,

Robert H. Ashenfelter III

and friend Heather Riddell,

Morgantown, W.Va.; eight

great-grandchildren Nicholas

and Quentin Schade, Gavin

Tessa Evans, Meadow Ashenfelter

and Savanna Ashenfelter;

and many nieces and

nephews that he felt fondly of;

special friend, Martha “Mike”

Wotring and two special

friends, his niece, Kathy Ryan

and Beverly Nichol.

Friends will be received at

the Scarpelli Funeral Home,

P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland,

on Wednesday from 7

to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2

to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted

at the funeral home on

Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev.

Robert T. Wellman officiating.

Interment will be in Davis

Memorial Cemetery.

The family requests that

memorial contributions may

be made to Davis Memorial


Mililtary honors will be

accorded at the graveside by

Post 13 Combined Veterans

Honor Guard.
