LEATRICE A. (RIDGEWAY) BENNETT [Staunton, Va.]

STAUNTON, Va. — Leatrice Ann Ridgeway Bennett, 85, passed away on March 17, 2014, in Staunton.

Mrs. Bennett was born in Lincoln, Neb., on Dec. 14, 1928, to Leslie Glenn Ridgeway and Elva L. Lauridsen.

She lived throughout the western states until she married Frank Alonzo Bennett of Cumberland, in Kalispell, Mont. in 1946. She came East as a bride and lived in Cumberland more than 60 years before she moved to Staunton in 2009 to be near her family. Throughout her life, she loved to recall the memories of her childhood in the West.

Mrs. Bennett was an avid reader and anyone who knew her was impressed with her eclectic selection of books. Nothing gave her more pleasure than spending all night reading and sharing her love of books with others.

Mrs. Bennett was predeceased by her husband and by her brother, Glenn Alvin Ridgeway.

Mrs. Bennett is survived by her three children; Gerald Leslie Bennett of Staunton, Jacqueline Gail (Charles) Frankfort of Staunton, and Richard Lynn (Susan Wilson) Bennett of Cumberland; two grandchildren, Julie Lynn Bennett (Paul) Parks of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Michael Wilson (Grace) Bennett of Falling Waters, W.Va.; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Tyson, and Axel Bennett. Mrs. Bennett is also survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia A. Ridgeway and numerous Ridgeway and Bennett nieces and nephews, with whom she spent many enjoyable hours over the course of her life, she loved to tell the stories of family times together, even in her final years.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Brightview Baldwin Park and Kings Daughters for their wonderful care over the last five years. We also want to acknowledge the Talking Book Center of the Staunton Public Library, whose services made all the difference in mother’s quality of life as her health declined.

Services for Mrs. Bennett will be held at a later date and will be private.
