TUCSON, Ariz. — Bernice M. Smith, 82, of Tucson, Ariz., passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013.
Born April 15, 1931, in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Minnie Hanft. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James B. Smith; two brothers, Wendall and Guy Hanft and ex-husband, Robert D. Timbrook.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Catalina Heights Christian Union Church in Tucson. She was employed by Eldorado Hospital for 20 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara A. Sponaugle, of Cumberland and Della and husband Ron Horton, of Redmond, Ore.; three sons, Larry G. Timbrook, of Corriganville, James R. Smith and wife Sherry and Bernard A. Smith, both of Tucson, Ariz; one brother, James R. “Bobbie” Hanft, of Nebraska; six grandchildren, Larry A. Timbrook, of Redmond, Ore., Brenda Norris, of Spokane, Wash., Serena Horton, of Prineville, Ore., Jimmy Timbrook and Troy Sponaugle, of Cumberland and Cindy Smith, of Tucson, Ariz.; six stepgrandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to the Hospice of Tucson, Ariz., extra special friends Kay Kenny, Bobby Benegar, Patrick Halbert, Ed Aguayo, Eva Kelley, Alice Henriquez, Benita Cowgill of Ridgeley, W.Va. and Bertha Green, of Cumberland.
She will be cremated, per her request.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Cumberland.
