LAVALE — Charles Leon Stevens, 86, of LaVale, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.

Born on Sept. 13, 1927 in Kemp, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ben and Pearl (Fazenbaker) Stevens.

Charles was employed for 42 years at the Kelly Springfield Tire and Rubber Company. He was a member of Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, and member of the Knights of Columbus, and involved in the Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts. Charles and his wife of 63 years loved to go camping. Over the years they went on many trips and toured the United States with their camper and beloved pets.  Charles and Joanne also loved Steelers football. They went to many games in Pittsburgh and attended training camps.  

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Joanne Stevens; their children, Karen Steinly, Michael Stevens, and Robert Stevens; grandchildren, Cynthia Winter, Daniel Steinly, Ryan Stevens, Samantha Heath, Patrick Stevens, Keith Stevens, Laura Bell, and Kristopher Stevens; eight great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A. ( Cresaptown, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be held at the funeral home at 3:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Mountains, Saint Ambrose Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charles’ memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th floor, New York, NY 10001, or St. Anthony’s Place, 109 Smallwood St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
