JOSEPH “PASTOR JOE” C. DINICOLA SR. [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Joseph “Pastor Joe” Charles DiNicola Sr., 70, of Cumberland, now residing on Halleluiah Boulevard and Bologna Avenue, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  

Born Dec. 10, 1942, in Cumberland, Pastor Joe was the son of the late Joseph DiNicola and Betty Jane (Deneen) DiNicola. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Bill and Toots Payton.

Joe was a 1960 graduate of Fort Hill High School. He was a proud member of the Sentinel football team. Joe was the former owner of Frostburg Meats. The Lord called him into the ministry and he became the Pastor of Oldtown Baptist Fellowship. After serving at Oldtown for 20 years, Joe became Associate Pastor of Graceland Baptist Church for another six years. He was the co-owner of DiNicola’s Deer Bologna with his eldest son. Joe worked as a meat cutter for numerous places over the course of the last 50 years.

Joe is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dottie (Payton) DiNicola; and his sons, Joe DiNicola Jr. and wife, Keri, Cumberland, Dwayne DiNicola and wife, Tracy, Corriganville, Todd DiNicola and wife, Becky, Cumberland, and Toby DiNicola and wife, Tammy, Eckhart. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Heather Thompson and husband, Justin, Kyli Hodel and husband, Timmy, Seth DiNicola and friend, Chantelle Smith, Brandon DiNicola, Katelin Shook and husband, Jeramy, Courtney DiNicola, Katrina DiNicola, Bayleigh DiNicola,  Chloe DiNicola, and Devin DiNicola; and his great-grandchildren, Ava DiNicola, Kinzie and Kerrigan Hodel, Bailey and Kaleb Thompson and Gabriel DiNicola. Joe is also survived by his sister, Diane Simmons and husband, Gene, Hagerstown; his stepmother, Doreen DiNicola, Cumberland; and a stepsister, Patty Brinkman, Ridgeley, W.Va.; and two special nieces, Pam Lease and husband, Reuben and Kim Fuller.

Pastor Joe's true passion was spreading the gospel and working with young people. He coached the Cumberland Whites Pee Wee football team for 10 years and was a coach for the Cubs Dapper Dan Little League Baseball Team for 15 years. He was awarded the Frostburg Little League Manager of the Year Award in 1984. He coached Church League basketball a number of years. He was involved in the Western Baptist Association Youth Church Camp for 15 years. Joe was a man who loved the Lord with all his heart, mind, and soul. He was blessed with his sweetheart, helpmate, and best friend. He was proud to pass the name DiNicola onto his four sons. He was extremely proud of his 10 grandchildren who then blessed him with six great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland,  (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A celebration of Joe’s Life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Jeffries and the Rev. Oscar Ohler officiating. Joe’s favorite scriptures will be shared by his brothers in Christ.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers are Seth DiNicola, Jeramy Shook, Timmy Hodel, Justin Thompson, Reuben Lease, and Jared Lease. Honorary Pallbearers are, Brandon DiNicola, Devin DiNicola, along with the Deacons of Graceland Baptist Church.

Christians who are separated by physical death never say “Goodbye.” Instead, they say, “I’ll see you later.”

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Graceland Baptist Church.
