LAVALE — Robert “Bob” Joseph Shewbridge, 85, of LaVale, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 17, 1928, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Harry M. Shewbridge and Ellen M. (Deetz) Shewbridge Wilson. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Shewbridge, Ersal Shewbridge and Phillip Shewbridge; a brother-in-law, John Hager; two nephews, Ersal J. Shewbridge and Robert W. Shewbridge and a niece, Pamela Bailey.
Mr. Shewbridge served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was retired from PPG, having been a polisher. He also retired from SS. Peter & Paul Church, having been a custodian. For many years, Bob worked Bingo at St. John Neumann School, Bishop Walsh School and St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
Mr. Shewbridge was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, SS. Peter & Paul Shrine; Third Order of St. Francis; Pope John XXIII Council 5450, Knights of Columbus and Fourth Degree, Chief Justice Taney Assembly 376.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Dorothy (Hager) Shewbridge; one daughter, Sandra Bradley, of Short Gap, W.Va.; three grandsons, Travis Shewbridge and wife Linette, of Frostburg, Trevor Shewbridge and wife Kayla, of Short Gap and Trent Shewbridge, of Short Gap; six great-grandchildren, Layna, Landen, Aiden, Maggie, Ava and Alyza Shewbridge; a sister-in-law, Rosie Hager; nephews, Richard Shewbridge and wife Carol, Larry Shewbridge and wife Betty and John Bailey; nieces, Brenda Shewbridge, Monika Hager, Barbara Gregory and husband Lee, Rosie Dudley and Lisa Giordano and husband Vic and special friends, Rick and Dawn Rounds and Bill and Arlene Weasenforth.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter & Paul Shrine on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, where military honors will be accorded by Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
