— OLD FIELDS, W.Va. — Charles Curtis “Chuck” Oliver, 83, of Old Fields, W.Va., passed this life on Friday, April 26, 2013, at his residence.

Born on March 15, 1930, in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Albert Ernest Oliver and Mable DeArmen Oliver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.

Mr. Oliver was a United States Navy veteran and served in the Korean War. He was a retired West Virginia State Police Corporal, having served over twenty-six years. He also served as the Hardy County Magistrate for eight years and the Moorefield Municipal Court Judge for over seventeen years. Chuck was a former member of the Moorefield Lions Club and very active in the Boy Scouts, having served as the Unit Commander of Troop 60. He was also a member of the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church in Moorefield, W.Va.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife of over forty-nine years, Bessie Louise Hollandsworth Oliver. He is also survived by his son, Denny Robert Oliver and wife Cheryl, of Moorefield, W.Va. and two grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 29, 2013, at the Elmore Funeral Home in Moorefield, W.Va.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in the funeral home with Pastor Jay Parkins officiating.

Burial will follow at the Olivet Cemetery, where graveside services will be accorded by the WV State Police Honor Guard.

Memorial donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, ( or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
