LOCH LYNN — Richard Melvin Holland, 70, of Loch Lynn, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 30, 1943, in Mountain Lake Park, he was the son of the late Daniel Archibald and Beulah Mae (McRobie) Holland. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Abraham Holland; one sister, Shirley Elvina Guthrie; and one granddaughter, April Mae Lang.
Richard was self-employed along with his brother Daniel in a tree business. He worked for Hub City Express, Hagerstown, and First United Bank & Trust, Oakland, as a carrier. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sandra Jean (Patton) Holland; one son, Jeffrey Todd Holland and wife, Pamela, Oakland; two daughters, Traci Lynn Holland and Carroll, Oakland and Kimberly Sue Holland-Flanagan and husband, John, Mountain Lake Park; three grandchildren, Angel Hollobaugh, Rowelsburg, W.Va., Chasity Flanagan and Luke Flanagan, Mountain Lake Park; six great-grandchildren; a special sister-in-law, Danielle; a special brother-in-law, Nathan; a special step-mother-in-law, Beverly; two brothers, Daniel Holland and wife, Margie, Oakland and David Lee Holland and wife, Kathy, Fairmont, W.Va.; two sisters, Margaret Germain, and Louise Bowman, both of Oakland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 203 S. Second St., Oakland, on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Loch Lynn Church of God on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ivan Ackerman, Pastor Cindy Ackerman and the Rev. John C. Skipper officiating.
Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Holland, Gary Holland, Daniel Holland Jr., Joe Fike, Nathan Patton and Steve Guthrie.
