JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Joanne Keyser Newman, 82, peacefully passed away on May 14, 2013 at her home in Jacksonville.
Originally from Cumberland, she was born on April 5, 1931 and moved to Jacksonville in 2004.
Fondly referred to as “Ms Newman,” she retired from Value City in 1996 and moved to Florida to be close to what mattered most to her, her family. Joanne was always a loving and giving person who always put others first and above all, treasured her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Keyser; her parents; brothers, Raymond and William; and sister, Mary Lee.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 40 years, William Newman; devoted daughter, Debbie Keyser of Jacksonville; sons, Robert Keyser of Colorado Springs, Colo. and David Keyser of Pittsboro N.C., all who were by her side when she passed into the Lord’s hands. Also surviving is her sister, Jane Klavuhn; sister-in-law Mary Louise “Weezie” Lewis, sons Billy and Mike Newman; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous other cherished family members and friends.
The 17 year lung cancer survivor was known for her wonderful cooking, great sense of humor and was loved by all wherever she lived. Until her move to Florida, Joanne was an active member of Cumberland’s St Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church.
A celebration of her life will be held in Cumberland at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent in her name to the American Cancer Society at: www.cancer.org.
