KATHRYN F. “KITTY” GARLAND [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Kathryn Fern “Kitty” Garland, 68, of Cumberland, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013 at home with family.

Born on Aug. 5, 1944 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Samuel E. Merrill and Marjorie D. (White) Thomas.

Kitty was a homemaker. She also had a wonderful talent of being able to learn new trades and skills. Kitty was a talented salesperson and could sell almost anything. She was also proud of being a nursing assistant and a caregiver. She attended Allegany and Fort Hill High Schools, and graduated in 1963. Kitty was an avid reader and enjoyed movies, music, books and musicals.  

Forever cherished by her five children, Grant Garland of Cumberland, Wendy Goss and husband Mike of Frederick, Robyn Garland, Amy Moyer and husband Sean, and Jimmy Garland and wife Cresta of all Cumberland; her brothers and sisters, Sammy Merrill of Scottsdale Ariz., Linda Geiger, John Thomas, Tommy Thomas, Davey Thomas, and Paula Wallizer all of Cumberland; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; her grandchildren “Nan-ny’s Angels,” Megan, Jillian, and Michael Goss, Zachary and Lauryn Moyer, Cameron, Jadeyn, and Sammy Garland; nine nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews; special niece, Amber Patton; and special nephew, Chad Garber.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (www.scarpellifh.com) on Wed-nesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with her brother the Rev. John Thomas and family friend the Rev. Stephen Monington officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kitty’s memory to the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, to help defray funeral expenses.
