Celeste Lascaris [Deep Creek Lake]

— DEEP CREEK LAKE — Celeste Lascaris, 88, of Deep Creek Lake, died at Garrett County Memorial Hospital on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1921, at Colle, Italy, and was the daughter of the late Tancredi Marella and Julia (Santolini) Marella. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Theodore J. Lascaris; a daughter, Mary “Teddy” Slider, and one brother, Louis Marella.

Celeste and her late husband Ted came to Deep Creek Lake many years ago and established the Alpine Corporation. They were the former owners and operators of the Silver Tree Inn Restaurant. She loved to cook, and spent many hours in her garden. She also loved to travel and being with her family and grandchildren and friends.

She is survived by her three children, Elaine McDonald and husband Tom, of Deep Creek, Diana Walthall and fiancé Ron Gallucci, of Deep Creek and James T. Lascaris and wife Peggy, of Deep Creek Lake. She is also survived by here seven grandchildren, Matthew and Nicholas Walthall, Elizabeth and Grant McDonald and Teddy, Johnny and Anthony Lascaris; three sisters, Inez Marella, of Greenwich, Conn., Medea Marella, of Baltimore, and Rose Marie Betz and husband Ron, of Chicago, Ill.; and two brothers, Philip Marella and wife Lucinda, of Greenwich, Conn. and Francis Marella and wife Barbara, of Clinton Township, Mich.

The family will receive friends at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, 4th Street, Oakland, on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Oakland, Thursday at 10 a.m. with Monsignor Paul Byrnes as celebrant.  

Private entombment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.

The family request that memorials for their mother be directed to the Garrett County Memorial Hospital Foundation, Memorial Drive, Oakland, MD 21550.

The Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, W.Va., is handling arrangements for the Lascaris Family.
