JOY MALLOY [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Joy Malloy, 86, of Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born March 6, 1928, in Cumberland, Joy was the daughter of the late Loyal Francis and Anna Belle (Evans) Lane. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Patrick Malloy, who died Jan. 14, 2000, and David Michael Malloy, who died Sept. 29, 2006; two sisters, Beatrice (Lane) Heavener and June (Lane) Pittman; and a brother, Loyal Francis (Bud, Frank) Lane.

Joy was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1946, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. After high school graduation, she worked several years for the C & P Telephone Company before going into nursing. She was a Registered Nurse and was a Staff Nurse for many years at Sacred Heart Hospital. She also worked part-time as a nurse at the HRDC Adult Day Care and the Kensington/Algonquin Assisted Living. She enjoyed baseball and was a true Orioles fan. Joy and her husband Eddie enjoyed spending many of the winter months of their retirement in Myrtle Beach. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Surviving is her husband of 67 years, Edward; five sons, Edward (Ted) Malloy Jr. and wife Patricia, Timothy Malloy and Martha, Gregory Malloy and Josh Kelly, and Jeffrey Malloy, all of Cumberland and Brian Malloy and wife Luise, Cheverly; and daughter-in-law, Karen Malloy, Palm Harbor, Fla. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Christopher Malloy, Cumberland, Kelly Malloy, Washington, D.C., Gloria Malloy, Nashville, Tenn., and Adam Malloy, Boone, N.C.; two step-grandsons, Justin Nave and wife Denise and children, Abigail, Harper, and Lucus, and David Shade and children, Jake, Caleigh, and Ella; as well as several nieces and nephews and many dear friends, especially her closest friend, Colleen Lowman, who was like a sister to her.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, ( on Friday, April 18, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be held at 9 p.m. with Deacon Frank Werner officiating.

A funeral service will be held at SS. Peter and Paul Church on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Bernard Finerty, O.F.M., Cap. officiating.

Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joy’s sons. Joy carried them into this world, they will carry her into the next.
