CONSTANCE S. “CONNIE” MERSON [Moorefield, W.Va.]

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Constance (Connie) Sue Merson, 71, of Moorefield, passed away on April 16, 2014, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, W.Va.

She was born in Westernport on July 14, 1942, the daughter of Twila June (Nee O’Haver) Lambert of Westernport and the late William Lester Lambert. On May 23, 1980, she married her husband of 34 years, Richard (Dick) Merson, who survives in Moorefield.

In addition to her mother and husband, Mrs. Merson is survived by a daughter, Paula Sue Dorsey and her husband, Kevin of Keyser, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Katie Galbraith of Keyser and Adam Galbraith of Evergreen, Colo.; two sisters, Rosalind Cheshire and husband, Tom of Westernport and Naomi Harr and husband, Greg of Keyser; two step-daughters, Mickey Scott and husband, Brad of Chesapeake, Va. and Marti Geck and husband, Jay Shaw of Firestone, Colo.; and three nephews.

Connie graduated from Bruce High School in Westernport in 1960 and then attended Allegany College of Maryland. She was a loving mother and homemaker. Connie was a loyal and faithful friend who never turned away people or animals in need. She maintained high personal integrity and sincerity among interactions with people whom she treasured.

She used her strengths of tenacity, courage and honesty to battle valiantly against her health problems. In her husband’s words she was a realist who faced all life’s obstacles courageously and was the best person he had ever met.

We are most grateful for the wonderful treatment, care and concern from the people of the Western Maryland Health System Schwab Cancer Center. In addition, the Grant Memorial Hospital staff, nurses and assistants excelled in their caring and concern for Connie. When medical treatment ceased, we were fortunate that Connie came under the care of Grant Memorial Hospice and Long Term Care. Both made every effort to ensure Connie’s quality of life was maintained.

At the request of Mrs. Merson her body will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to WMHS Schwab Family Cancer Center, 12500 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD 21502; Grant Memorial Hosptial, 1 Hospital Drive, Petersburg, WV 26847 or Hospice Promise Foundation, 100 Hospital Drive, Suite 2, Petersburg, WV 26847.

Condolences may be left for the family at www.basagic.com.

All arrangements are under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home, Petersburg.
