PAUL W. HARR [Oakland]

OAKLAND — Paul William Harr, 74, of Oakland, died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland.

Born on Nov. 1, 1939, in Somerset County, Pa., he was a son of the late David E. Harr Sr. and Alberta Helen (Sivits) Harr. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Linda (Speicher) Thayer Harr on Nov. 26, 2012.

Mr. Harr was was a retired educator, having begun his employment as a teacher at Wiley Ford Elementary School for two years, then becoming principal at Short Gap Elementary School for two years. He then went on to Southern Garrett High School where he served as a social studies teacher for many years and was then appointed as the coordinator of federal programs with the Garrett County Board of Eduucation, a position he held until his retirement. He was a 1957 graduate of Piedmont High School, Potomac State College in 1959 and graduated from West Virginia University in 1961 with a degree in business.

Surviving are two step-sons, John Thayer and wife Dawn of Beaver Falls, Pa. and Ed Thayer and wife Kendra of Oakland; two brothers, Larry F. Harr and wife Jeanie and David E. Harr Jr. and wife Connie, all of Keyser, W.Va.; two sisters, Carolyn J. Kelly and husband Paul of Keyser and Catherine Faulkingham and husband Bill of Winter Harbor, Maine; and five step grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. James A. McCune officiating.

Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
