CARPENDALE, W.Va. — William “Wink” Eugene Sherman, 69, of Carpendale, died Friday, May 9, 2014, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 1, 1944, in Philippi, he was the son of the late Eugene A. Sherman and Myrtle Virginia (Booth) Sherman.

He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Keith Sherman Jr.; a brother, James P. Sherman; and a brother-inlaw, Stewart Flanagan.

“Wink” had been the Assistant Manager at the White Cross Pharmacy. He then worked as a mechanic with his brother at Cal’s Auto in Carpendale.

He belonged to Holy Cross United Methodist Church.

“Wink” loved to work in his garden each year. He also enjoyed hunting with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; three sons, Bill Sherman and wife, Gail, Romney, Keith Sherman and wife, Mary Jo, Fort Ashby, and David Sherman and wife, Amanda, Carpendale; three sisters, Mary Lechliter and husband, Cal, New Martinsville, Donna Lawler and husband, Ronnie, and Linda Flanagan, all of Carpendale; one brother, John Sherman and wife, Jackie, Wiley Ford; and four grandchildren,
Alisha, Kristopher,
Zackary and Matthew.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland,
on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas Young, officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
